Here's a memory from my years at NBC Sports.

For those of us from NBC Sports on the flight to cover the 1984 World Series, we’ll never forget what happened. For the young ones, Wrigley Field did not have lights until 8-8-1988, so if they won the NLCS, MLB had to realign the schedule so no night games were played in Chicago. A bunch of us were on a flight during the final game, series all tied up, headed to Detroit. It would be the last time the LCS would be a best of five series. The Cubs had won the first two at home, and the San Diego Padres won their first two at home. If the Cubs won, the plan was to stay in Detroit as the schedule would be flipped to allow the day games to occur on the weekend. If the Cubs lost, we had to make a connection to San Diego. We had the pilot check mid-flight and the Cubs were ahead, 3-0. We started discussing where we should go for dinner in Detroit. We landed and rushed off to the bar to check a TV screen.. it was the top of the 7th and the score was 3-2. Cubs still up. We began to look up the phone number (in a phone book) to make our dinner reservations. Then the Padres scored four runs, and we sadly headed to the gate to catch our all night SD flight. It was attributed to the curse of the billy goat. So glad the curse has ended! I just wish that Fox had shut up their announcers and let the great games unfold with the sights, sounds and tensions being played out on the field. They talked over all the drama. Anyway, congrats to the Cubbies!
